Introduction ~ Teaching Experience ~ Areas of Interest
Teaching Statement ~ Learning Through Diversity ~ Professional Development
Hi everyone! My name is LeAnn Nguyen and I’m currently a first-year
PhD student in the evolutionary biology program. I have an undergraduate
degree in Biological Sciences and a Master’s degree in Microbiology,
both from Arizona State University. I’ve never had any formal teaching
experience, but I did spend time as a health inspector for Maricopa
County, which involved a lot of education with operators working in
schools and restaurants. It was always rewarding being able to talk with
operators about environmental health and safety and working with them to
create practical solutions to keep the public safe. I don’t necessarily
see myself teaching in formal settings in the future, but I am very
passionate about science communication and feel like science is often
communicated poorly to members of the public. I hope to be able to learn
more about effective teaching and to be able to utilize the skills and
knowledge I gain to help others better understand science as a field.
